Durch den in Island am 11.04.2010 ausgebrochenen Vulkan “Eyjafjallajökull” konnten bereits am 15.04.2010 um etwa 19 Uhr Ausläufer der Staubwolken in Hamburg gesichtet werden. Zahlreiche Flüge, sogar in Hamburg, wurden bereits gestrichen.

Am 20.3.2010 begann in Südisland zwischen den Gletschern Eyjafjallajökull und Myrdalsjökull im Bereich der Paßhöhe Fimmvörðuháls ein Vulkanausbruch. Das Video der ersten Eruptionsspalte, die sich am 20.3. öffnete, entstand am 31. März 2010 aus einer Entfernung von etwa 200 Metern.
