Am 20.3.2010 begann in Südisland zwischen den Gletschern Eyjafjallajökull und Myrdalsjökull im Bereich der Paßhöhe Fimmvörðuháls ein Vulkanausbruch. Das Video der ersten Eruptionsspalte, die sich am 20.3. öffnete, entstand am 31. März 2010 aus einer Entfernung von etwa 200 Metern.
