Best Spots to Host Your Wedding in Costa Rica
1) Manuel Antonio Beach Weddings. Manuel Antonio Beach in Costa Rica is your ideal chance to see wildlife up close, plus it features one of the mostlovely and tranquil beaches in the country. This is my favorite spot in Costa Rica. There are a range of hotels, resorts and eco lodges within Manuel Antonio Beach. Want some additional privacy and freedom? Host your Costa Rican wedding in a gorgeous Villa. Here are a few suggested venues for your wedding in Manuel Antonio: Gaia Hotel & Reserve (expensive), Arenas del Mar Beachfront (expensive), Hotel Parador (mid-range), Si Como No (mid-range), Makanda by the Sea (mid-range), Lost Atlos Beach Resort and Spa (larger, mid-range). For Villas, here are some recommendations: Villa el Cantico, Punto de Vista and Casa Bella Vista.
2) Weddings at Arenal Volcano & Tabacon Hot Springs in Costa Rica . The Arenal Volcano has a rainforest that is also filled with animals. Since it’s in the mountain area of the country it has breezy evenings and less humidity. The volcano itself is spectacular and you’ll have a fireworks show at night since the volcano often erupts at a safe but visible distance. Your friends and family will enjoy a good soak in the natural hot springs that surround the area. Don’t think swimming pool… think tropical rivers carved into landscaped gardens and luxurious spa experiences.Your guests will talk about your wedding for years to come! Recommended places for your wedding at the Arenal Volcano in Costa Rica: The Springs Resort and Spa in Arenal (expensive), Arenal Kioro (expensive) Tabacon Hot Springs (mid-range), Arenal Nayara (mid-range), Hotel Royal Corin (mid-range), Lost Iguana Resort (mid-range).

3) Weddings in Jaco, Costa Rica . Jaco is one of the world’s best surfing vacation spots but the region offers much more, including wildlife trips, zip lining, ATV and white water rafting. Jaco’s very best wedding place is the renowned Zephyr Palace Luxury Rental Mansion (expensive). However, you can also find many beautiful mid-range venues for your wedding in Jaco, Costa Rica including Los Suenos Marriot Ocean Resort and the Hotel Club del Mar. A little out of town is the spectacular Villa Caletas, which is high on a cliff that overlooks the ocean.
4) Gunacaste Weddings in Costa Rica . The Gunacaste province is quite large and encompasses most of the north part of the country. This is a mellow place where you can chill out but appreciate the ocean breeze. There are a variety of amazing wedding venues which include all-inclusive hotels making it easy for your wedding guests to have their every need met. Some hotels for your destinationwedding in Gunacaste include: Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo, JW Marriot Gunacaste Resort & Spa Costa Rica, Paradisus Playa Conchal, Recreo, and Hotel Riu Gunacaste.
5) Weddings in Drake Bay . Drake Bay in the Corcovado National Park corridor of Costa Rica is some of the most unspoiled environment you will ever see. The area has no electricity and the only sounds come from the jungles. This is a ideal spot for an elopement wedding ceremony in Costa Rica. Some venues for your wedding in Drake Bay include: La Paloma Lodge, Aguila de Osa Inn, and Jinetes de Osa Hotel.
6) Tortuguero Costa Rica Weddings . Tortuguero is also a wonderful location for an elopement wedding ceremony in Costa Rica since it’s off-the-beaten-path. You’ll also have a chance to take in Costa Rica’s Caribbean sea! There are heaps of animals in the surrounding jungles and loads of tours for your wedding guests to appreciate. Some hotels and resorts in Tortuguero for your wedding: Manatus Hotel, Samoa Lodge & Resort.
7) Weddings in Nicoya . The Nicoya Peninsula also features some of the very best and most calm or even surfing beaches. Nicoya has everything from expensive all-inclusive resorts to small villas for your wedding. On Tambor Beach you will find Tango Mar Beach Spa & Golf Resort (which has been featured on The Hills), Barcelo Tambor Beach and villas include Visllas Vista Hermosa.
Puerto Jiminez Weddings . Puerto Jiminez is a easy going town on the border of the beautiful Corcovado National Park. The rainforest is filled with wildlife and the oceans are great for deep sea fishing, surfing or just sitting around and sipping a rum punch. A villa rental may be your best possibility for a perfect wedding in Puerto Jiminez. Here are some recommendations: The Fishack Villa, Modern Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse.

Volcanic Worries in Indonesia

]]>
It seems like the volcanic threat to airlines across the world in2010 isn’t over yet. After the catastrophic affects that the Icelandic volcano eruption had, it seems that Mount Bromo in Indonesia might add to the list for this year. It had begun smoking after a yearlong break in activity. The country has experienced tremors and a small eruption has seen volcanic debris scattered across the island, with the local airport being forced to close.
The most well known volcano in the area; mount Bromo straddles the pacific ring of fire and is said to be one of the most volatile volcanoes. Other volcanoes in the ring are also dangerous, with mount Merapi exploding earlier this year, causing more than three hundred deaths and evacuating thousands of villagers in the area. Bromo is a sacred area for the locals, as on the fourteenth day of one of the Hindu festivals they travel up the mountain and leave gifts of fruit, rice, flowers and vegetables to the mountain gods by throwing them into the volcano. Some locals take on danger and climb into the crater in an attempt to recover the gifts, as this is seen as lucky and they are deemed to be blessed by the gods.
Java, Bali and the rest of Indonesia are often visited by British tourists in the months of November, December and January, to escape the cold of the UK and get some winter sun. If you have a trip booked then seek advice before travelling, and make sure that you have Travel Insurance in case of catastrophe.

The Best of portable vaporizers
When in search for a good vaporizer, getting a portable vaporizer is a perfect choice. This device allows a person to enjoy vapor in a very convenient manner which can be handheld or in some cases, hands-free. The greatest advantage of having portable vaporizers is that you can bring them with anywhere you go. Portability is not limited around the house but it can also be applicable outside the house.

Lake Atitlan – A Circuit of The World’s Most Beautiful Lake

]]>
Few of us can claim to have investigated Lake Atitlan in Guatemala, the place Lonely Planet travel guides describe as “The closest thing to Eden on Earth.” However, in the absence of a spin around the lake, this article can give you an idea of the wonders of one of the most beautiful parts of the planet. Use it to assist you when choosing your next vacation, or at least to fake some good travel stories when chatting with your friends!
Getting there
Easy to access, the lake is about a two and a half hour drive from Guatemala City or Antigua. Most arrive at the lake in the main town, Panajachel and stay in a hotel there or take a boat to other hotels on the lake. Getting to Panajachel is easy, and can be organised through a tour operator offering a door-to-door services between Panajachel and Antigua or Guatemala City.
Showered in rainbows
Held in place 1560 meters (5100 ft.) above sea level by a natural dam of volcanoes makes for an ideal climate. It’s never uncomfortably cold or hot. The rainy season lasts from May to October, but the sun does shine some almost every day. The word “atitlan” is a Mayan word that translates as “the place where the rainbow gets its colors” and in the wet season you are sure to see a few colourful arches rising gracefully above the lake.
Visit lakeside towns by boat
There is no road that encircles the lake, so visitors will have to settle for the next best option; taking a boat across the smooth waters to any one of the towns that sit on its banks. There are 11 communities around Lake Atitlan (including Panajachel) and visitors will have a variety of locations and experiences to choose from. Munching on hummus in Moonfish cafe in the hippy retreat of San Marcos or partying until the early hours in San Pedro, Lake Atitlan will have something to keep you entertained. If you want to get to grips with the language, numerous Spanish schools are based in San Pedro for you to choose from.
]]>
Visiting the volcanoes
Lake Atitlan is the result of land collapse following volcanic activity 84,000 years ago, and since then volcanic activity in the region has build three impressive volcanoes that dominate the skyline around the lake. All can be visited from the towns surrounding the lake.
The tallest of the three volcanoes, Atitlan, dominates the stunning lake with which it shares its name. Atitlan’s summit takes about 8 hours to reach; the reward is a breathtaking view of the world’s most beautiful lake and Guatemala’s Pacific coast. Perhaps the most frequently photographed of all Guatemala’s volcanoes, San Pedro’s beautiful cone seems to rise from the waters of Lake Atitlan. The hike to the top takes about 4 hours, and while visitors will not get great views due to heavy vegetation on the summit, the crater serves as a refuge for rarely encountered species of plants and animals. Along with Atitlan and San Pedro that form the natural dam holding in Lake Atitlan, Toliman, the third volcano, has its own delights to offer. A small group of rare Horned Guans survives in the forest near the summit and hikers should plan on camping out for a good chance of sighting the birds.
Getting to know the locals
The lake basin supports a wide range of agricultural products, including coffee, that provide well for the largely indigenous population living around the area. Mayan cultural tradition is still strong, and many locals will be seen in traditional dress. Numerous humanitarian organisations, based out of the main centres of Panajachel and San Pedro, allow visitors who want to commit a couple of weeks to visiting communities and assisting in various projects.
However you want to get to know Lake Atitlan, you will be surrounded by the awe inspiring vistas that have left an undeniable impression on travellers over the centuries. With the ease of transport access from the big centres of Guatemala City and Antigua to help you get to one of the most beautiful places in the world, what are you waiting for?

2011 THE BEGINNING OF WARS by J.E. Ante

]]>
The beginning of many wars are prophesied in 2011 and the trigger is probably a large volcano in America which causes great loss of crops and reduced sunlight worldwide. This is also the time that our sun may begin its new solar maximum which has traditionally brought many new wars and revolutions to mankind from this increased social energy and activity. But wars and the rumors of wars might be greatly reduced if this is foreseen and measures taken by major and minor governments to reduce this natural massive environmental damage from a volcano and the increased solar activity.
One extinct volcano may someday soon explode in 2011 in America according to remote viewers. If this is so might this warning be actually an opportunity to prepare to mitigate this event and try new things to end this massive worldwide calamity.
A large tanker fleet that sprays large clouds of mists of fresh or salt water above a volcanoes massive dust and ash blooms worldwide might actually be very beneficial to farmlands if it can be extracted by the artificial rainfall by a massive air tanker fleet. And might the oceans benefit by massive blooms of algae to sequester carbon dioxide from the volcanic dust seeded to all the oceans. Then by man’s own doing massive starvation might be avoided from the reduced sunlight and massive disruption of commerce and farming and fishing. And possibly great resource wars for food and water might be muted and ended quickly instead of lingering for many years in the world.
Mankind has the means to foresee these greater and lesser events in time now with (CRV) controlled remote viewing but few people use this information except the NWO elite, major militaries, and big business which have even more direct knowledge to future events. It is the will to use this knowledge correctly and wisely that is lacking in our leaders. To intentionally allow mass starvation of billions to cull the Earth of perceived excessive populations is immoral. This withholding of high technology and assistance is harmful, shortsighted, and unnecessary. When mankind can mute the excesses of nature we should at least try our best to do so instead of remaining silent. The Club of Rome and other population studies have convince the elite that the world is overpopulate. But perhaps it is so because the elite themselves have withheld the high technologies that are needed by all to end pollution and poverty.

One thing I learned as an organic gardener is that I could grow large amounts of foods even in winter in any climate if I made a greenhouse 1/3 underground and insulated the side ground with 4 to 6 inches of foam from the surrounding frozen soils. This simple cheap passive greenhouse construction can be the basis for massive northern yearround greenhouses in any climate. The the blue and red LED grow light technologies can supply enough cheap grow lighting to make these greenhouses perform well in winter if extra light is needed. This is the newer greenhouse technologies of most all future cities of man unless we are smarter and mute natures super volcanoes of the future. It will be this or starvation for most people of Earth if nothing is done.
We need to try other things instead of only building massive seed banks, underground bunkers, and underground cities filled with bulk foodstuffs for the elite and militaries who know the coming future. Might it be wiser to try new things to mute these massive environmental disasters rather than allowing it to run its course.
Studies are needed now to determine the best place to drop down the volcanic ash from the spray planes from above and how best to do this and when. Many months and years might be needed to monitor an active volcano with many tanker planes to knock down the ash blooms. But would not a great human endeavor of great good be wiser than allowing great starvation and wars and the many uncertain consequences to the future?
Men and worlds can become masters of their destiny in time but we must start now to do so. If not we will become the slave who only reacts to current events. Do you want to see the masses of people starving to death in your undergrownd cities on your TV screens deep underground or do you want to see the many tanker planes saving most of the people from starvation and wars? What will be your legacy to the world which you will become known.
Nature may have other less harsh plans of population reduction in December 2012. If the radiations of solar flares and CMEs are too great many people may become sterile or less fertile if not shielded from this in underground havens for a short time. So nature may have other plans for humanity which are less harmful and more humane than the elite’s do nothing policies for 2011 and 2012.
When the lights go out for a time in 2012 the great cosmic silence will be heard once more. The worldwide electronic smog ending will bring a world of wonder when people can experience their true selves and begin anew. People under 30 will experience many new psychic abilities as the electronic smog of cell phones, TVs, radios, mircrowaves, and a thousand others are gone. And it will be a time of great wonders as well as loss but we will all see the great benefits of it.

Birth of human on earth
Every part of human body is temporary; either it is heart, mind or any part. Human is a temporary power. And had to spend a temporary life on the earth and disappear because this is rule of nature that every power had to destroy one day. Earth is giving birth to the creatures because this is rule of nature and nothing is out of nature. And nature which gives power also takes away the power. “Every start has an end, and every end is the base of new start”.

William Steele, the Seismology Lab Coordinator at the University of Washington Geophysics Program, has a son, Chris, who goes to elementary school. “He comes in sometimes and he loves to do stuff.” It seems he’d recently put a sticker on one of the lab’s monitors, and his father had some trouble accessing the equipment. “What an excuse!” Steele never did get into the program he’d wanted to show me.
December 4th of last year there was a magnitude 5.1 quake in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Aftershocks were felt in Washington State. I had headed out to the UW in search of information on recent earthquake activity in the Puget Sound region.
“Oregon is relatively quiet next to Washington. But this year, we’ve had an enormous amount of activity in Oregon, counter to past patterns.” Klamath Falls couldn’t be noisier, said Steele, ticking off the numbers: September 4th, 5.9; Sept. 20th, 5.9, 5.0, 4.3; Dec. 4th, 5.1; and Christmas Day, 4.0, 3.4.
Most of our local activity in the Puget Sound region is recorded by the UW’s lab equipment. They have an emergency preparation computer program called “Beat the Quake,” hailing from the land of quakes, California, which has suffered through quite a lot of severe earthquake damage lately. That’s the program Steele had trouble running on his computer. Fortunately, the UW’s Seismology Lab has far more emergency preparedness information “so we don’t have to begin from ground zero” in the likely event of an earthquake. Steele is also the Public Information Officer covering quakes through the UW. “We have 135 seismic stations throughout Washington and Oregon, currently operating, and we’re expanding. We really cover a tremendously broad area.”
They locate quakes precisely, then determine the magnitude (quantity of total energy released by the quake), location (area affected by the quake), and epicenter (location on the surface directly above the focus, or place where an earthquake originates.)
They collect data about the geology of the region as well. “It’s critical data. This lab is an educational center for graduate students in geophysics.” They also educate citizens. School groups bring in students, and Steele speaks at civic organizations, encouraging people to take action and make themselves safer from earthquakes.
Of course, the big question everyone asks is, “When?”
“We’re not able to put down a date. It’s more complicated because three types of quakes occur in the Puget Sound region. The most common are deep earthquakes.
“Signals travel through the planet’s crust, sometimes all the way from the other side.” Events from anywhere show up on their helicorder sheets, making an analog, a 24-hour record, of every quake. For example, the Klamath Falls quakes, which are very near California on the Oregon coast.
“We cover the Cascade Range, and have multiple stations on every volcano. We have a good station at Mt. Baker, adequate to cover the region.” Earthquakes around volcanoes are very common.
The lab shares data with California for quakes occurring on the border of California and Oregon. “We’re part of the Washington Regional Seismic Network.” Steele showed me a map of Pacific Northwest Seismicity, 1969-1991. There were huge blue clusters in Puget Sound. What are those, I asked. “Moderate, shallow, and deep quakes. The deep clusters are in the Puget Basin.”
Deep earthquakes, the ones you really tend to write home about, are the largest in magnitude as measured on the Modified Mercalli Intensity Scale. The values usually range from 1.0 (not felt) to 7.0 (extreme damage to buildings and land surfaces). They can go even higher, as they have in recent deep quakes in Alaska.
Here’s what’s happening in Puget Sound: about 300 kilometers or more out from the coast is where the deep quakes are generated. There’s a ridge 500 to 700 kilometers out called the Juan de Fuca Ridge, and new material, new sea floor, is being deposited all the time along it. It pushes the Juan de Fuca plate toward the North American plate underneath the Seattle area. The Juan de Fuca plate moves an average of two inches a year, towards us, lifting the other plate.
A border zone locks it up, an interface between the two plates that stops the oceanic plate, making it subduct beneath us, forcing the ocean plate down into the mantle of the Earth. This boundary is called the Cascadia Subduction Zone, and extends from the middle of Vancouver Island in British Columbia down to Northern California.
The Earth’s mantle lies beneath its brittle crust. It’s semi-solid, due to tremendous heat and pressure. “Our Cascade volcanoes are probably there because of plate subduction beneath us. The push deforms the crust and builds up tremendous stresses. Right now, the coast of Washington is rising. It’s bulging up.” The oceanic plate is “cold rock” and the shock of the two forces meeting leads to deep earthquakes. Washington has recently experienced two large ones, in 1949 and 1965.
A flyer from the lab states that roughly 1,000 earthquakes per year are recorded in Washington and Oregon. “Between one and two dozen of these cause enough ground shaking to be felt by residents. Most are in the Puget Sound region, and few cause any real damage. However, based on the history of past damaging earthquakes and our understanding of the geologic history of the Pacific Northwest, we are certain that damaging earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 or greater) will recur in our area, although we have no way to predict whether this is more likely to be today, or years from now.” Steele thinks it will be soon.
“In 1949, there was a severe earthquake in Olympia, 7.1. Eight people were killed and there was millions of dollars worth of property damage. The quake was located 70 kilometers deep.
“In 1965, there was a magnitude 6.5 quake between Seattle and Tacoma.” Both earthquakes were felt as far away as Montana. But there were no aftershocks, as is usual during a deep quake. The infamous aftershocks, known to catch people in the middle of recovering from a bad earthquake, happen during land-based shallow earthquakes. The ocean-based shocks occurred once, causing ground tremors that lasted several minutes. “The 1965 quake killed about five people, and again there was millions of dollars of property damage.” Other deep events, difficult to calculate from records of the times, occurred in 1882, 1909, and 1939. “Every 35 years or so a 6.0+ magnitude quake occurs beneath Puget Basin. The whole region along the coast will shift at once. When it finally builds up enough pressure to kick up, it’ll be a big one.”
]]>
Eighty percent of the quakes on the planet happen along the Pacific North West Rim, which is referred to as “The Ring of Fire” because of all our volcanic activity. In 1964, one year before this area’s last big event, south-central Alaska generated a monster 9.3 quake, shaking the ground for twenty minutes, generating tidal waves that decimated Seward’s coast, affected 34,000 square miles, and killed 143 people. And there’s been recent large quakes in Cape Mendecino, California, and Parkfield, California, infamous for ground shaking, in 1992.
Brian Atwater of the USGS (United States Geological Service) and the UW geology department has done studies along the coasts of Washington and Oregon. He’s found a kind of layered soil…”what he found…ghost forests killed by the last big quakes. Subduction zone material covered by coarse black sand.” A layer gradually turned into forest floor and then the sand layer. “As bulging continues, coastline rises, and low-lying areas are flushed clean by salt water. Stress released during the quake makes the coastline subside by seven or eight feet. It ‘drops.’ If you’re living at five feet above sea level, it’s not a very comfortable thing.”
Earthquakes also generate large tsunamis, or tidal waves; the biggest ones, generated by larger quakes, can rip up an entire coastline for miles, wiping out bridges, roads, and buildings. The really great subduction zone quakes, 9.0 or more, only occur about once a century on the face of the planet. Strangely, a big quake may result in only about three-and-a-half minutes worth of strong ground shaking, which doesn’t sound like much. “One recent California quake was only seventeen seconds of strong ground motion, a 7.1 quake. A 7.0 quake releases the equivalent of 199,000 tons of TNT in energy; a 9.0 releases 200 million tons, or 17,000 atomic bombs’ worth of force.
“The difference between an 8 and a 9 is greater than the difference between a 2 and an 8, because of the logarithmic scale. The force increases exponentially. It gets 30 times greater each time.” I wondered if it ever goes up to 10.0.
By carbon-14 dating organic matter in ground and sea levels, “scientists can determine approximate dates for events going back 10,000 years.” Finding clues about these earthquakes involves both painstaking research and educated guesswork.
Research has recently identified a Seattle fault which generated a large quake between 1,000 to 1,100 years ago. “There were landslides, and a huge seiche-when something big falls in the water, creating waves like tsunamis. Large block landslides occurred in forests. Restoration Point on Bainbridge Island rose twenty feet from Puget Sound in seconds during that event.”
Buildup from glacial ice sheets once covering the continent make it difficult to analyze shallow crust faults. But geologists are pretty sure there are two major Seattle faults. The biggest one runs from the north tip of Mercer Island through Eastgate to the Kingdome, just north of West Seattle. The other fault runs through White Center, parallel to the bigger one. In 1872, an estimated 7.3 shallow quake caused what seismologists call “felt reports” from observers, the only evidence of some older quakes. Native Americans tell legends about what must have been some very sizeable earthquakes and tsunamis.
Nowadays, all the real-time telemetry (automatic transmission of data from a distant source to a receiving station) comes through in the back of the lab, where Steele poured me a cup of Starbucks coffee at their metal sink in a very equipment-crowded space. “Relays ‘zap’ activity energy in nanoseconds to the lab. Before people in a region know what’s going to hit them, we do.” The helicorders monitor 23 stations on analog. “We focus on volcanoes. All stations, including the ones on helicorders, go onto the computer system in the next room. The discriminator in the back takes FM carrier signals and separates them from seismic signals, leaving an amplified seismic signal. It goes to the front room, changing into digital information the computer can read.
“If it picks up a ‘jump’ (a skip in the needle on the helicorder) on a station, it checks other stations and records all data, whether there’s a signal or not. If it’s a big quake, it does estimates of the magnitude etc. via programs, beeps the people (like Steele), and sends information to seismologists around the region.” Steele might hear a “beep” anytime.
As I drank my coffee, Steele told me he’s a grad student, his life’s partner works, and together they support their family, renting a house in Wallingford and raising two kids. “It’s a rewarding job, but…the rewards are not monetary.” Nonetheless, he feels treated as a colleague by everyone, and has a good working relationship with all his “fellows at the lab.”
About earthquake preparedness, Steele is adamant. “The secret is not fear and loathing in Seattle, and that we have to hide under our beds. Let’s get ready. Our schools need to get to the point where we can withstand a 7.4 earthquake. How many little bodies do we need under bricks before we start spending some money?” Right now, there are no definite laws enforcing earthquake building codes, “if the building code years ago said you could pile bricks without mortar on top of each other.”
Unreinforced masonry creates structures that fall during even moderate earthquakes. “The entire wall of a school can fall down and kill students. A brick that falls three stories doesn’t slow down,” he said, referring to the death of a boy during the 1965 earthquake. Steele is certain such deaths are preventable.
At least six schools in Oregon have unreinforced structures, bricks that can fall and fill a doorway, blocking the exit. “Retrofit them, or tear them down and build another school. If a school has been considered unsafe for a quake lately, they can sell it, and it becomes a senior center. No laws stop that. These buildings need to be brought up to code or taken down. Deaths will happen unless we act. India just had a 6.8 quake…tens of thousands dead. There needs to be water and food stored away to last 72 hours. You need to get under a table and ride it out; get down on the ground, under something; check to see if you smell gas, and turn it off; electricity, too.”
You should get to know your community resources, Steele said. And in case of severe aftershocks, if you’re in a building “you should wait until the shaking stops, and then get out.” Lots of people are killed by falling debris while evacuating buildings.
The number of FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency) in Woodinville, headed by Chris Trisler, is (206) 487-4645. It’s their job to assist people with earthquake preparedness.
What does Steele see in the immediate future? “I expect more of the same. Probably some quakes greater than 4.0 in the Puget Sound area. While we’ve been talking, there’ve been events in Klamath Falls,.” As I write this, there are aftershocks east of the Dec. 4 “sequence” starting in Klamath Falls. “The question is, are we going to recognize the danger and do something about it, or are we going to wait until we have an adequate death toll? I’d like to see a dedicated plan and some leadership from the state. It’ll be a lot of money.”
Steele said a colleague of his said it best: “The next great disaster will happen as soon as we forget about the last one.”
Some of the information in this article is from “Washington State Earthquake Hazards,” by Lawrance, Qamar, and Thorsen, 1988.)
WHAT TO DO OTHER THAN SCREAM YOUR LUNGS OUT – FALL DOWN!
Apparently, you may hear a very loud, building sound before the frenzy begins. The below is from “How to Survive in Earthquake Country,” a FEMA pamphlet. Find out about your risks, at home, and in your workplace. Get more specifics from the American Red Cross, or FEMA.
Learn what causes injuries: parts falling off building exteriors and interiors; flying pieces of broken glass; overturning bookcases; unanchored water heaters; storage facilities; anything made of glass; fires from damaged gas lines; electric lines; wood stoves; chimneys; toxic fumes.
Create emergency preparedness plans: find safe spots in your home; identify escape routes; plan two ways out of each room; pick two places to meet, outside your house and outside the neighborhood if you can’t return home; show everyone how to shut off water, gas and electricity; practice your plans, now.
Read “Your Family Disaster Plan,” and “Emergency Preparedness Checklist,” which you can get from FEMA.
Reduce earthquake hazards: evaluate your home; strap water heaters and gas appliances down; remember, stiff items snap; place heavy objects on lower shelves; anchor everything heavy; anchor hanging objects; support community earthquake preparedness.
Businesses, schools, daycares, neighborhoods, churches, clubs: hold workshops. Assemble a disaster preparedness kit: store food, water, clothes, a first aid kit, a radio, flashlights, and batteries, good for 72 hours of use, in your car trunk, home, and office. For more details, consult the FEMA brochure, “Your Family Disaster Supplies Kit.”
During/after an earthquake: stay calm; don’t panic or run. Earthquakes are usually preceded by loud sounds, so take quick action. You actually have about two seconds, so get ready for that earthquake now to protect yourself and others. Stay where you are: drop, cover and hold something solid, or take immediate cover under a heavy desk or table, in a doorway, hallway, or against inside walls. Turn away from glass. Keep away from chimneys, windows, tall bookcases, and objects that might fall.
Evacuate only after the shaking stops. Use the stairs, not the elevator. Remember, aftershocks may occur at any time. Listen to a radio or TV for instructions. Outdoors: move away from buildings, trees, and utility wires. Sit on the ground until the shaking stops. Flee inland immediately when near a coastline. Check for injuries. Do not move seriously injured people unless they’re in danger. Indoors: evacuate damaged buildings, as aftershocks could cause additional damage, or buildings can collapse.
Do not re-enter a building until it’s declared safe by responsible authorities. Don’t use the telephone except for emergencies; stay off the phone. Check for fires. Have a fire extinguisher, and know how to use it. Check utilities: gas, electric, and water lines may be broken. Gas: do not use matches, candles, open flames or electric switches indoors, because of possible gas leaks. If you smell gas, open windows, leave, and shut off the main gas valve, which is usually outside.
Electricity: if wiring is broken, shut off electricity at the main switch. Don’t touch anything near downed or damaged lines. Water: if water pipes are broken, shut off the supply at the main valve outside. Use water from ice cubes, water heaters, toilet tanks (if they don’t contain chemical cleaners). Clean up spills. Attend carefully to spills of potentially harmful materials such as medicines, drugs, and household cleaners. Provide adequate ventilation, as chemicals may combine to produce toxic gas. Remember to assist others in need.
And also remember: it’s not your fault. (Sorry about that, I couldn’t resist the joke.)

If pleading the “Fifth” smells, the Solyndra drama will prove the stereotype applies in this instance. A good old-fashioned scandal in an election year pumps up the media juices. Lava flows from Volcano
By Dale Nance
www.endtimeproof.org
Has Volcanic Activity Been Increasing?
This is a simple question right? Well the answer doesn’t seem so simple. That is if you are asking the experts at the Global Volcanism Program. The GVP is a part of the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History.
Among the various questions posted on their FAQ page was this simple question:
Has volcanic activity been increasing?
The answer?
“We don’t think so. A look at the number of volcanoes active per year, over the last few centuries, shows a dramatic increase, but…”
]]>
They go on to explain that the reason for this (in their opinion) is that there is much better reporting of volcanic activity. You can read the entire explaination here: http://www.volcano.si.edu/education/questions/index.cfm?faq=06
So the answer is: Yes, volcanic activity has been dramatically increasing over the past few centuries!
Hmmm. I believe Pliny and many others in antiquity had no problem reporting volcanic activity, so why would reporters over the past few centuries have such a problem? Which century do they believe that a volcano would not be reported? 20th? 19th? 18th? True, we didn’t have the USGS back then but science was alive and well a few hundred years ago.
Their explaination simply doesn’t hold water since every volcano, whether active or dormant, is very well documented today. The point is, that even if a volcano erupted in a remote area in 1800, and it was not reported at the time, it has since been studied and documented. By looking at plant life and other clues, scientists can determine when a volcano has erupted in the past. They can find evdience for volcanic activity which happened thousands of years ago. Evidence of volcanic activity just a couple of hundred years ago is nearly impossible to mistake.
The fact is that volcanic activity has dramatically increased over the past several hundred years regardless of the “intrepretation” of the science by so called “experts”. It seems that government agencies feel it is their responsibility to protect (lie to) the public and downplay the evidence of increased volcanic activity, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados, floods, and droughts. I understand that they do not want to instill panic, but the truth needs to be told.

Volcanic Adventures in Ecuador
Posted: Mar 29, 2011 |Comments: 0

]]>
Ecuador has plenty of geothermal unrest that makes visiting the country an explosive and exciting adventure. Both on the mainland and in the Galápagos Islands, you will find there is a plethora of volcanoes that provide exciting outdoor adventures.
Go bathing in Baños, a jungle-frontier town with steaming thermal pools full of allegedly health-inducing minerals. The inexpensive public bathhouses provide a relaxing and soothing Ecuador vacation. While Volcán Tungurahua causes a lot of trouble for the locals, it also allows for the large and relaxing natural Jacuzzi located nearby.
One of the most sought-after summits in Ecuador is the ice-cream-cone shaped Cotopaxi. This volcano is steep and one must properly acclimate before, but does not require much technical knowledge. The view from the top and into the crater is dizzying, due to both the altitude at 5,897 meters and the natural beauty of the site.
]]>
Quito is the only capital city that is actually threatened by an active volcano, but the laidback locals don’t seem to mind neighboring Volcán Pichincha looming over their heads. You can ride a sky tram up to 4,100 meters on the volcano, and if you’re up to it, it is possible to climb a three hours to 4,680 m to Rucu Pichincha.
The lava fields on San Salvador in the Galápagos have unique age-old lava crusted into shallow pools and cool caves and geological swirls. The wildlife in the region only makes this interesting destination better; marine iguanas, seals, and Sally Lightfoot crabs all roam here.
Cross the mouth of a volcano by canoe. The pea-green pool deep in the Quilotoa crater takes six hours to circumnavigate.
Active Isabella is the largest of the volcanic Galápagos Islands. You can see a few of Darwin’s famous finches by taking an 8-km trail from Santo Tomás up to the sides of Volcán Sierra Negra where there are steaming fumaroles.
Another Galápagos volcanic adventure can be found on the main island, Santa Cruz. There are a number of extinct craters that are teeming with giant tortoises and vermillion flycatchers.
For a high-speed adventure, flying down Volcán Chimorazo on a mountain bike is exhilarating! It is possible to drive up the highest peak in Ecuador, at 6310 meters, and then roll down past grazing vicuña.
Any equally intimidating ride can be found on a train ride from Riobamba to Sibambe. The ride through the mighty peaks of the Avenue of Volcanoes and across the twisty descent of the Devil’s Nose (a 765-meter sheer cliff) is only for the fearless.
If you aren’t keen on outdoor pursuits, you can spend the day shopping at Otavalo’s traditional Saturday market, all while under looming Volcán Imbabura. Good finds include ponchos, tagua-nut jewelry, and ponchos.
